Industrial Locknuts (Shaft Nuts) are essential mounting components engineered to locate, secure, and apply precise axial preloads to rolling bearings on shafts and adapter sleeves. 1. Functional Mechanics & Locking Assemblies
DKFL shaft locking assemblies operate through high-integrity mechanical interlocking between the nut body and the locking element:
- KM & KML Series Locknuts: Feature precisely machined peripheral slots designed for hook spanners and washer tabs. The KML series provides a compact cross-section and finer thread pitch, optimized for tight spaces and larger bearing bores.

- MB & MBL Series Locking Washers: Equipped with an internal tab that engages the shaft keyway and multiple external tabs. Bending an external tab into one of the nut’s slots establishes a positive, non-slip mechanical lock that prevents unthreading.
- Self-Locking Precision Nuts (KMT / KMFE): Developed for high-precision machine tool spindles and severe duty applications, utilizing integrated locking pins or set screws without requiring keyway cutting on the shaft.
3. Installation Guidelines & Assembly Practices
- Proper Tooling: Always utilize calibrated hook spanners or impact sockets corresponding to the nut diameter. Never use chisels or punches, which deform slot geometry and compromise rotational balance.
- Face Alignment & Cleanliness: Ensure the bearing abutment face and threads are completely free from debris prior to tightening to prevent uneven axial clamping loads.
- Washer Replacement: Locking washer tabs suffer fatigue after initial engagement; never reuse bent washers during maintenance overhauls.
