Locking Washers (MB / MBL Series), commonly referred to as tab washers or star washers, are essential retention components designed to form a fail-safe mechanical lock with KM/KML industrial locknuts. 1. Positive Mechanical Locking
The dual-action locking principle of DKFL MB washers provides a secure mechanical interlock:
- Internal Keyway Tab: The internal tab fits precisely into the shaft keyway or adapter sleeve slot, preventing the washer from rotating around the shaft.
- External Locking Tabs: Multiple peripheral tabs are provided. Once the locknut is torqued, one aligned tab is bent firmly into a nut slot, creating a physical barrier that prevents any reverse rotation.

- One-Time Use Only: Locking washers must be replaced after every removal. Re-bending tabs compromises the metal structure and risks fatigue failure.
- Correct Orientation: Ensure the internal tab sits flush in the keyway without force to prevent uneven loading during nut tightening.
- Professional Bending: Always use a suitable drift punch to fold the tab; avoid using sharp tools that could gouge the tab base and initiate micro-cracks.
